Halo Classifieds and Unlockables

Summary

When: 2011-2012
Company: Microsoft’s 343 Industries
My role: UI Artist

I designed the Halo Waypoint Classified glyphs. Half of the glyphs were based on the Forerunner glyphs seen in Halo Wars, however, the full alphabet was shy 13 glyphs. I took inspiration from Nordic runes and created 13 additional, cohesive glyphs to complete the script language. My art history and linguistic background helped me create a seamless visual language.

The 2011 remastered release of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, contained a series of new in-game terminals and videos. At the end of each terminal video, a series of Classified glyphs appeared. Users would then input these glyphs into the glyph pad on the Halo Waypoint Xbox 360 app and receive in-game rewards.

In 2012 the release of Halo 4 continued to use my Classified glyphs throughout the maps and create harder easter egg puzzle pieces for users to unlock rewards.
