HaloWaypoint.com

Summary

When: 2013-2014
Company: Microsoft’s 343 Industries
My role: Senior UX Lead (contractor)

In 2013, I led the new UX initiative of the Halo Waypoint Design Team and owned the HaloWaypoint.com experience. The goal for our small team of designers and developers was in less than 1 year to create 343 Industries’ first in-house designed and developed website. The website was launched in the fall of 2014, right before shipping Halo: The Master Chief Collection. This version of the Waypoint website, has been the longest running, most stylistically consistent, and well maintained and sustained Halo Waypoint experience since the beginning of Waypoint experiences in 2010.

This website had the task of integrating and creating a scalable presence for the Franchise team with the online Halo encyclopedia, integration with the Consumer Product team’s online Halo store, with the Community outreach team managing the robust forum experience, creating a dedicated presence for Halo Esports and tournaments, and continued support for all shipped game titles and user statistics on a per-game basis.

My responsibilities included: feature brainstorming and planning to User Research, product launch, sustainment cycles, team leadership, process creation, accessibility requirements, rapid prototyping, KPI definition, information architecture, project management, brand design, style and brand enforcement, and design documentation. I provided art direction, collaboration, delegated tasks for ad hoc design, feature designs, and sustainment work.
